Oarful Seas - Ancient Naval Ruleset

Image
Oarful Seas - New Ancient Naval Ruleset Hi Everyone!  Oarful Seas is my new Ancient Naval Ruleset. Primarily used for fighting Punic Wars battles using 1/1200 scale figures. The following is a brief introduction to the ruleset. You can buy a pdf of the rules for $15 AUD at Wargames Vault:  https://www.wargamevault.com/ product/476638/Oarful-Seas? affiliate_id=3828732 Introduction Oarful Seas is a fast-play ancient naval ruleset for wargaming fleet actions of 20+ ships per player. Players command multiple squadrons of oared vessels as they ram, shear, board and shoot missiles in an attempt to sink or capture enemy ships.   The ruleset is designed for 1/1200 scale miniatures using a 6x4 table. A typical game of Oarful Seas will need approximately 20-30 ships per player. Apart from ships, players need a measuring tape in inches, at least two 6-sided dice (though a few more would be useful), and some way of marking slowed, immobilized and wrecked ships. Ships ...

DBA 6mm Samnites and Gauls vs Polybian Romans

Image
I didnt have time to film a video today, but thought I'd whip out my big base DBA armies for a quick ancients game.  My big base setup uses 4 40mm wide bases put together to form one big 80mm wide base which means I need a lot more 40mm bases to complete a basic 12 element army.  As such I dont have enough figures to complete a full Samnite or Gallic army, only Roman and Carthaginian ones. For some variety though, I decided to take inspiration from the Battle of Sentinum in 295BC in which the Samnites and Senone Gauls (Gauls from north east italy) combined to fight the Romans. Below are the lists I used: II/33 POLYBIAN ROMANS 1x3Cv(Gen) Equites 1x3Cv Allied Cavalry 2x2Ps Velites 2x4Sp Triarii 6x4Bd Hastati & Principes II/11+13 SAMNITE & GAULS 1x3Cv(Gen) Gallic Cavalry 1x3Cv Gallic Cavalry 1x3LCh Gallic Chariots (present at Sentinum) 1x2Ps Gallic Javelinmen 5x4Ax* Samnite Warriors 3x4Wb Gallic Infantry *I have used one house rule in this game, which is increasing 4Ax co...

Song of Drums and Shakos in the Peninsular war

Image
Song of Drums and Shakos in the Peninsular war Below are 12 Napoleonic forces for playing Song of Drums and Shakos in the Peninsular war covering forces for British, French and Spanish Guerrillas. all models are 1/72 scale, from HaT or Italeri. The thing I love about the SoDS rules is that the amount of models you need for a 400 point force is small, so I only have to paint a few models each, allowing me to sample different units in the Napoleonic era without having to commit to painting hundreds of the same model for a large-battle ruleset. The first force, is the French 1st Hussars The next force actually didn't fight in the Peninsular war! but nevertheless I wanted to paint a small force of French Lancers. These would most likely be the 6th Lancers, but depends on whether you consider the red, 'red', 'scarlet' or 'crimson', it could be the 1st or 4th lancers at a pinch. The last unit of horses is the British 10th Hussars. Following on, I have some French...
